The START Diving Programme 2019

START Diving is a Swim England funded programme providing the opportunity for new audiences to try diving for the first time.  It is open to any Swim England diving club or any operator delivering diving lessons.

The programme is flexible in format allowing each club/centre to run the programme however they feel will most benefit their numbers and allow them to reach the widest possible audience.

The basis of the programme is that funding will be allocated to allow clubs/centres to provide free taster sessions to anyone who isn’t already involved in the sport. The structure of these sessions is up to the centre to design – but the ultimate aim is that at the end of the programme as many participants as possible have had a great introduction to the sport and as a result have joined the lessons programme running at the club/centre.

Some examples of how the programme was delivered last year were clubs having a regular taster session every week throughout the year, and clubs running intensive tasters throughout holiday periods.

Swim England will support with centrally produced marketing collateral which includes flyers, certificates, pin badges and pop up banners, but you should include in your funding application amounts for any additional marketing collateral you may want to support the programme (eg T-shirts), plus all additional coaching or pool hire costs which will be required to deliver the programme.

Meetings are led by the Youth Advisory Panel chair, who is supported by a vice chair, with both being elected from the Youth Advisory Panel membership, by their peers. Swim England Coaching & Teaching Guidance

It is vital for the future of our sport that participants are confident in the quality of activities offered by Swim England affiliated organisations. It is also very important that clubs, administrators, coaches and teachers have the peace of mind that they are covered by appropriate insurance.

Swim England have put together Coaching and Teaching statement and guidance which covers Swim England’s expectations of clubs in relation to the level of coaching and teaching in all disciplines in the club environment. This is also the standard that is required by Swim England’s insurers in relation to a club’s liability insurance.
