Swim England Synchronised Swimming National Masters Championships 2019

The Swim England National Masters Synchronised Swimming Event is being held on 16 November 2019 at K2 Leisure Centre, Crawley. The Swim England National Events team are seeking enthusiastic, professional and reasonably local volunteers to help run this event.

The general volunteer roles are for Front of House and/or Field of Play (runners, timekeepers, video filming & medal bearers etc.)

Synchronised Swimming Coach – RPL Now Open!

The RPL Window is open again for the final time this year.

The RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) process is an assessment only process which assumes that you already possess all of the necessary knowledge and skills to perform as a Swim England Synchronised Swimming Assistant (Coaching) It is aimed at those who have experience of coaching in this area and are already operating in a synchronised swimming coaching role, but do not hold the current assistant qualification.

Who is RPL designed for?

Anyone who already has experience of coaching swimmers and can provide evidence of meeting the certificate specification without tutor support or learning resources.

Synchronised Swimming Coach Development Programme 2019 – Pilot

Swim England are piloting a Development Programme that is designed to support current Synchronised Swimming coaches within England who are wanting to increase their knowledge of athlete development. The programme will work with up to 6 coaches and support them to produce regional and national swimmers from grass roots programmes to club squads. It is a six month scheme that will provide access to key experts to support the knowledge and experience of club and squad coaches.


  • To select & develop coaches that have a direct influence on the success of their athletes
  • To impart the latest techniques and knowledge to selected coaches to raise standards of delivery
  • To develop coaches to link with key stakeholders to support Athlete Development


This programme is designed to attract Level 2 coaches who are currently running a club programme and wanting to gain more knowledge of how to develop an athlete to National level. The right coaches should be athlete focused, motivated to change the current image of the sport and be dedicated to the overall National vision for England Synchro.

The Programme:

The programme is designed to meet the varying needs of our coaches across the country and covers the key areas for achieving success:

  • Planning tools and models
  • Managing a club
  • Planning for support Services
  • Preparing for performance
  • Choreography
  • Lifts & Acrobatics
  • Land training

Each Key area will be delivered by trained experts who have been engaged in delivering at the elite level of the sport, have experience delivering a large synchro programme with a proven track record for success. Many of the modules will be remote and delivered over Webex meeting. This will be followed up with 1:1 skype meetings with individual coaches to support you in your development and implementation of your new skills and knowledge.

Gemma Yates Trophy Nominations

Swim England are seeking nominations for the Gemma Yates Trophy . The Gemma Yates Trophy is awarded to an athlete who is a member of a Swim England affiliated club, for endeavour.  The trophy is awarded in memory of Gemma, who swam for Walsall Synchronised Swimming Club. She represented England and had been selected to compete in the Junior Europeans before sadly passing away at the age of 16.

It is awarded to a swimmer who has overcome anything which has made it difficult for them, yet still gives 100 per cent to the sport of synchronised swimming.

All clubs are invited to nominate a swimmer and Gemma’s Parents, Nick and Lynn Yates review the applications and make their selection.

Synchro Coach Clinic Saturday 8th December

The synchro coaches clinic is being held at SportPark, Loughborough on Saturday 8 December from 10.30am – 4pm.

The cost is £30 per person which includes a buffet lunch.

Nominations for Mary Black Award

Nominations are welcomed for the prestigious Mary Black Award to acknowledge a member of the Synchro Community for their services to the sport.

The Mary Black award has been in existence for 40 years and is one of the most prestigious trophies and previous winners have been athletes, officials, coaches and administrators – all of whom have made a significant contribution to the sport.

Swim England Youth Panel Members

Swim England are looking for Youth Panel Volunteers to join their current Youth Panel.

The Youth Advisory Panel is a group of young people aged between 16–25 years old. Collectively, they act as representatives for all young people involved in the sport of swimming, providing them with a voice.

The Youth Advisory Panel meets up to 4 times per year, usually for a 4 hour meeting at a weekend, and typically in Loughborough at the Head Offices of Swim England. Meetings are led by the Youth Advisory Panel chair, who is supported by a vice chair, with both being elected from the Youth Advisory Panel membership, by their peers. In addition to attendance at meetings, there may be a small amount of work required between meetings, and some online surveys sent by Swim England to seek more immediate feedback on a particular topic. Youth Advisory Panel members’ expenses for travelling to and from meetings are covered by Swim England to ensure that these are accessible to all.

Who are we looking for?

  • Young people who are actively involved in the sport as a participant, teacher, coach, official or volunteer
  • Young people who are between 16-25 years old
  • Young people who are active in one of the following disciplines:
  • Diving
  • Water Polo
  • Synchronised Swimming
  • Open Water
  • Para Swimming
  • A non-swimming volunteer
  • Young people who are ideally a Swim England member (Cat 1 – non-competitive, Cat 2 – competitive Cat 3 – other)

What are we looking for?

We are looking for dedicated new members who will be committed to attending meetings, contributing to discussions and working collaboratively with their Youth Advisory Panel peers. We are looking for passionate young people who want to positively influence the experiences of other young people involved in the sport and to act as representatives for them. If you think this could be you then please apply!

Applicants can be active in swimming but one of the disciplines listed above must be their primary focus.

Applications will be considered from individuals who are not members as long as the application demonstrates significant experience of sports participation and/or volunteering.

Video Tips

  • Tell us what the issue is, why it is important to you, how does it affect you or people you know, how would you solve it?
  • Please make sure you introduce yourself so we know who you are and can match your video to your on-line application.
  • Think about where you are when you record your video – is it bright enough for us to see you? What is around you? Could someone identify where you are or see something you don’t want them to?
  • Two minutes goes by quicker than you think when you’re recording so plan what you want to say.
  • Think about how quickly you speak.
  • Make the video as interesting as you can but remember it’s about you.

Who will review the applications?

Applications which meet the criteria will be reviewed by the current Youth Panel who will decide on who should join as new members.

Harold Fern and A H Turner Awards

The Regional Management Board welcomes nominations for the Harold Fern and A H Turner Awards. Any nomination should be accompanied by a supporting letter and CV for the nominee. The criteria is as follows:

The Award is given to the individual or organisation making the most outstanding contribution to aquatics at club, county, regional, national or international level.

In selecting the winner of the Award each year, the Sport s Operations Committee will give consideration to the following:

  • outstanding achievement in advancing the sport through competition/coaching/officiating
  • outstanding achievement in the administration of the sport
  • outstanding achievement in advising the sport

Swim England Synchro – University Club Support

University Club Support Funding is a Swim England initiative that is available to increase participation in Synchronised Swimming through the formation of a University Synchro section. Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to offer weekly synchro activity to students with the support of their Student Union.

The programme is flexible in format allowing each University to run the programme the way they feel will be most beneficial in reaching the widest possible audience. Successful projects will aim to link to a local Synchro Club in order to increase Swim England membership.

Swim England – START Synchro Funding

START Synchro is a Swim England funded programme designed to increase participation in Synchronised swimming. The programme is designed to link primary schools with local clubs/operators by offering dry land Synchro activities and signposting interested participants to a free pool taster session in order to provide a complete experience of the sport.

The programme is flexible in format allowing each club/operator to run the programme the way they feel will be most beneficial in reaching the widest possible audience. Successful projects will aim to link these free sessions to their/local club programmes to increase Swim England membership.
