Masters Cherriman Award – Nominations

Do you know a volunteer who has made a real difference to Masters swimming in the last year?

If you know of an exceptional individual who inspires others or works tirelessly behind the scenes to help the Masters community, then please nominate them for the Cherriman Award so that we can recognise their good work.

The Vivienne and Leonard Cherriman Award is an annual award, presented by the Home countries Masters Swimming Management Group to ‘the person or organisation who or which has done the most to promote and foster the cause of Masters swimming in Great Britain.’

Nominations run each year and are welcomed from England, Scotland and Wales.

Masters CPD

The South East Masters Group are running a CPD for Masters Coaches hosted online. The CPD will be led by Kevin Brooks Head Coach at Wycombe District Swimming Club.

This CPD will give real life examples of what Wycombe Swimming Club does, but also important points to consider when coaching Masters and creating an environment for your club programme to thrive.

Swim England South East Region Seeks Masters Manager

A volunteer is needed to fill the role of Swim England South East Region Masters Manager which will become vacant on 15th September, at the Swim South East Council Meeting, when Geoff Stokes is standing down after 13 years in the post. Full details can be found here.

Masters Swimming Research

Masters Development Day 2019

On the 8th June, 28 masters swimmers took part in the regional development day. The day was held at ACS International School in Cobham.

The day started with a presentation on Strength and Mobility by Michael Peacock, the group then took to the gym to try out the exercises. Following lunch the focus in the pool was around race day preparation which was led by Steve Greeenfield.

Swim England Masters Conference 2018

The Masters Working Group would like to invite you to attend the free Masters Conference 2018 at Sport Park, Loughborough, on Saturday 10 November.

The day will commence at 9.30am (with a 10am start to the conference) and will finish no later than 4pm.

There will be exciting speakers and the opportunity to discuss all of the issues currenty affecting the Masters community. Anyone who has an interest in Masters is very welcome to attend.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

Swim England Masters – Volunteer administrator role opportunity

The Home Countries Masters Swimming Management Group are looking for a volunteer administrator to be the central point of contact for information and communication for the group.

  • Are you looking to get more involved within Masters swimming or a community group?
  • Would you like to be part of the Home Countries Masters Swimming Management Group or a group with a national role?
  • Do you have excellent administration skills which you could use to play a key role in the smooth running of the group?
  • Could you give approximately four to five hours of your time a month?

Harold Fern and A H Turner Awards

The Regional Management Board welcomes nominations for the Harold Fern and A H Turner Awards. Any nomination should be accompanied by a supporting letter and CV for the nominee. The criteria is as follows:

The Award is given to the individual or organisation making the most outstanding contribution to aquatics at club, county, regional, national or international level.

In selecting the winner of the Award each year, the Sport s Operations Committee will give consideration to the following:

  • outstanding achievement in advancing the sport through competition/coaching/officiating
  • outstanding achievement in the administration of the sport
  • outstanding achievement in advising the sport

Swim England Coaching & Teaching Guidance

It is vital for the future of our sport that participants are confident in the quality of activities offered by Swim England affiliated organisations. It is also very important that clubs, administrators, coaches and teachers have the peace of mind that they are covered by appropriate insurance.

Swim England have put together Coaching and Teaching statement and guidance which covers Swim England’s expectations of clubs in relation to the level of coaching and teaching in all disciplines in the club environment. This is also the standard that is required by Swim England’s insurers in relation to a club’s liability insurance.

Masters 1500m Event Results

On 21 April the first Swim England South East 1500m Short Course Masters event was held at Aldershot Garrison Pool. This event was introduced to allow Masters to get times recorded in the Swim England Rankings, necessary to enter the British and Swim England 1500m events.  Full results from the event can be found here.
