South East Region Para-Swimming Training Day – 9th July 2023

We are pleased to invite Swimmers from around the region to attend the next South East Region Para-Swimming Training Day.

This Para Swimming Training Day is intended to engage and support swimmers with an impairment to develop their skills, experience and knowledge through their journey as a Para Swimmer. The training day is aimed at all swimmers from development level to those selected for England Para Swimming Talent Programmes, a chance to have their skills developed. This should be seen as an additional training to their home club training.

For those swimmers who do not have a classification or are on the waiting list (S99) but believe they are eligible for classification we would like to invite you for the training day which will also include a skills observation. This will start your process of becoming a classified swimmer.

Who is Para Swimming Regional Training for?

  • Swimmers regularly training and can swim at least 100m or more across multiple strokes (where impairment allows).
  • Swim England Cat 2 members with a classification or on the classification waiting list (S99)
  • Swimmers with an eligible impairment, who wish to compete and requiring a skills. observation to begin the classification process. Those swimmers attending can be Cat 1 members, but must be Cat 2 members to be placed on a classification waiting list.
  • Ideal progression opportunity for those who have graduated from the Start Para-Swimming programme.
  • Swimmers with a Hearing Impaired Classification (S15) or wishing to begin the process of classification with GB Deaf Swimming Club.
  • All swimmers must be 9 years plus as of 31 December.
  • Aimed at those NOT on a World Class programme.

The Coaching Team will be led by Tom Baxter who is the Assistant Head Coach at Crawley Swimming Club. We would also like to also invite any coaches along to the training day to gain a better understand of how they can support their Para athletes in their club environment.

Para-Swimming Regional Training – Workforce recruitment

We are looking to build our workforce for the upcoming South East Para-Swimming Regional Training in November.

Para-Swimming Regional Training is the next step for Athletes following club swimming aiming to create a supportive and an accessible opportunity for all Para athletes within the South East Region.

Para-Swimming Regional training provides a great opportunity for Continuing Professional Development for coaches and the support team to upskill and enhance their knowledge of Para-Swimming.

We are looking for a range of people who will support the delivery of 3 x Para-Swimming Regional Training sessions (3-4 hours long) per season (November, March, May) led by the Region and supported by Swim England Para-Swimming Talent Team.

Coaches and Team managers selected will be informed by Monday 20th September.

England Para-swimming National Pathway Engagement day – Saturday 10th July

Join the England Para – Swimming Talent Team for a FREE, fun day of workshops and activities, designed to help athletes, coaches and parents / guardians gain valuable information about the development of Para-athletes. The swimmers will join those that are on the England Para-Swimming Talent Programme for a ‘Day with Dave’, for a workshop and land session.

Dave Hill is a 2 x Paralympian in Swimming & Triathlon, a World & European Medallist, British Champion, Team GB’s Youngest Athlete at the Athens 2004 Paralympics and a Top 10 Finisher in the Rio-de-Janerio 2016 Paralympic Games. Dave will discuss his career as a Para-athlete across two sports and now as a coach. He will highlight the areas that he found really useful in his development and what influenced his success. There will also be a Q&A session, so do think of questions that you think will help you. Dave will also lead athletes through a land session.

Following a short break, there will be a workshop for coaches, where Dave will cover what he learnt as an athlete and a coach, what he wanted from a coach and what his influenced his coaching principles.

  • Coaches 2.45pm-4.45pm

Who is this day for?

  • Athletes who attend Regional Para-Swimming Training in their region
  • All classified athletes and those on the classification waiting list who would like to develop their swimming further
  • Category 2 members who have an eligible Para-Swimming impairment or hearing impairment and would like to learn more about Para-Swimming, or development / competitive opportunities
  • Coaches who would like to gain a greater knowledge of Para-Swimming and the support available to them and to athletes.
  • Club Administrators, exploring ways of developing Para-Swimming within their club environment.

**All athletes under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult throughout.

The National Coach Development Programmes provides coaches with an opportunity to learn and further develop their coaching skills to enhance their knowledge and experience of working with Para-Swimmers. These programmes will provide support to coaches working with Para-Swimmers and are centred on the pillars of athlete development and coaching behaviours.
