John White (Thanet SC) awarded UK Coaching Lifetime Achievement Award

The 2017 UK Coaching Awards took place last night. John White from Thanet SC was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.

After receiving the Award John said: “I am shocked to have been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. It’s a great honour to have even been nominated with some of the greatest coaches in the country. What a fitting end to my career, to win this just before I retire.”

The 80-year-old has dedicated his life to swimming, putting 43 years of coaching into the sport and developing three clubs in East Kent. He celebrated his birthday just four days ago and will be retiring this month following a long and successful coaching career.

John’s coaching skills have helped develop swimmers in Thanet, with many advancing to compete at all levels including international.

As well as helping swimmers to progress he has also helped to develop many coaches and volunteers. He affectionately refers to these people as “his angels”, many of whom have completed aquatic accredited qualifications and taken up paid employment in swimming across the world.

Swim England Volunteer Satisfaction Survey 2017 launched

Swim England has launched its 2017 Volunteer Satisfaction Survey to get feedback about experiences of volunteering in swimming and aquatics.

Swim England recognise the vital role that volunteers play in the success of our sports Those people who give up their time at local, regional and national levels are integral to the work that we do.

To make sure that our volunteers are able to do the best job that they can, we need their feedback. Each year the Volunteer Satisfaction Survey identifies all of the things we are doing right and highlights any areas in which our volunteers feel they could use a little extra help.

Help us to improve the service we offer

We would encourage all Swim England volunteers to complete the survey. You could be an individual who helps out at your club a couple of hours a week. You might attend every Swim England national event. Whatever your role we want to hear from you. Your feedback is essential to judging where we are at the moment and what more we could do to support you and future volunteers.

Please help us improve the service we offer you by completing the survey. The survey will remain open until midnight on Wednesday 15 November 2017 and should take around 10-15 minutes to complete.
