ASA Strategy 2017-2021

Our vision is a nation swimming

And our role is to effectively lead, orchestrate and deliver initiatives that will encourage individuals across the country to use the water in the way that works best for them.

In the process of developing our new ASA 2017-21 strategy, we recognise that to achieve our vision we need to create an inspirational organisational brand. One that is meaningful to our colleagues and the general public, and with which our members, stakeholders and commercial partners are proud to be associated.

And this is where we would like to ask for your help..

Values are at the heart of a great brand and a successful organisation.

We’d like your input to define our values and bring them to life, shaping how we work and how we look going forward. We’d appreciate your thoughts and will be able to share the results in due course.

Swim 21 Essential – Important Changes

Following feedback provided via the latest Club Survey a swim21 Working Group was established earlier this year to review the ASA’s existing swim21 criteria, with the initial focus being on the ‘Essential’ Module. Feedback illustrated that over 60% of accredited clubs wanted to see the accreditation duration extended to two years and this has therefore been considered over the last few months

The headline changes to the swim 21 process are indicated below:
1. From December 2016 each Essential accreditation will last for 2 years with an interim Health Check incorporating 5 elements only
2. The number of swim21 Essential elements will reduce from 21 to 16 due to several elements having been combined
3. There are no proposed changes to Network and Performance modules/elements at this stage
By making the aforementioned changes the Working Group believe that existing standards will be maintained, to ensure clubs continue to operate safely and equitably , for treat female infertility use generic clomid , however the streamlined process will reduce valuable volunteer time, a key issue identified within the Club survey. Please refer to the ‘Accreditation & Health Check Requirement’ sheet for more information, which can be found on the Regional website, www.southeastswimming.org. In the main, ASA templates are still not mandatory, however there are now a couple of exceptions to this rule (for elements 6, 7 and 11) as stipulated on the requirement sheet – this change should make the process easier for all involved.
New clubs or those re-accrediting in December 2016 will be the first group of clubs to utilise the new elements.
Please note that the swim21 online portal will be undergoing some essential maintenance work in preparation for the changes to be made to the system late September/early October. Although documents will still be accessible for current accreditations we would encourage clubs to always save information in a secure place – please note that the ‘Documents’ tab on the portal can be used for storing information if preferred.
Details of the changes will be sent to all clubs via the ASA Clubs Team.

Due to the changes in the swim 21 criteria, the swim 21 Annual Health Check workshop scheduled for Wednesday 14th September 2016 will be postponed until the new version of the swim 21 portal goes live.

CPSU’s 2016 Safeguarding Star Awards Launched

The Child Protection in Sport Unit’s (CPSU) Safeguarding Star Awards are now open, offering the perfect opportunity to highlight and say thank you to our incredible aquatic Welfare Officers.

Do you know someone who has gone the extra mile to safeguard children in sport?

The deadline for Safeguarding Star Awards nominations is 1 July 2016.

All nominations will be judged by a panel of young people from across different sports, and they will select six stand-out individuals as their Safeguarding Stars for 2016.

These six individuals will be recognised at the CPSU national safeguarding event ‘Safeguarding in sport: Taking our lead from young people’ at Wembley on 5 October.

Even if not one of the final six, all individuals who are nominated will receive recognition from the CPSU.

To download a nomination form and read more about previous Safeguarding Stars, visit the CPSU website for more information.

All completed nominations should be returned directly to the CPSU at [email protected] along with any queries.

Top tips for writing your Safeguarding Star Awards nomination

  • Be clear and concise whilst providing enough detail – just make sure the information you include is relevant
  • Remember that the judging panel are relying on your words and examples to see what makes your nominee so great – they won’t know the person
  • Provide examples – what does this individual do and how do they do it? How do they go the extra mile and what is the outcome of their hard work?
  • Include information which details how they go above and beyond and therefore why they deserve recognition for what they do
  • Create a unique picture of your nominee – what sets them apart from everyone else

Make every sentence count, and good luck!

Nominate your club for a Community Sport and Recreation Award

Nominations are open for the Community Sport and Recreation Awards 2016 and the Sport and Recreation Alliance is encouraging applications from community clubs across the country.

Running for over two decades, the annual awards ceremony was designed to celebrate grassroots sport and recreational organisations, bodies and clubs and the work they do in their local communities.

In 2015, the Sport and Recreation Alliance received almost 200 nominations and were able to award seven outstanding clubs for their work in local communities across the UK with a cash prize.

This year there are five award categories which highlight the range of work that’s undertaken throughout the sport and recreational community. These include:

  • Community Sport + Recreation Overall Winner
  • Professional Club Community Programme of the Year Award
  • Innovative Project Award
  • Youth Volunteering
  • Social Impact

Also celebrated at the awards are individual prizes – the Emeritus Award for a life-time’s commitment to sport and recreation and the Arthur Bell Trophy, which recognises people who have given tremendous services to community sport.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 14 July in London, by HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

The nomination process is simple – visit the Sport and Recreation Alliance website for details and criteria for each of the award categories, an online application form, as well as full terms and conditions.

The application form is limited to 500 words, however feel free to include a link to any supporting evidence you may have, such as a video, website or other link. Make sure you include as much information as possible to showcase the great work you do!

Clubs can make multiple applications in different categories – but only one nomination per club per category is allowed. Shortlisted applications will be verified with governing bodies.

Nominations close 12 midnight, Sunday 8 May 2016. Please click here for more information or to nominate.
