Swimmers from across the region converged on Eastbourne for the 5km SER/Sussex Open Water Championship and the Eastbourne 2km Sea Swim. Regional swimmers were joined by swimmers from as far afield as Australia who came to experience the delights of sea swimming.
Saturday's South East Region/Sussex 5km Championship took place in glorious sunny and calm conditions with a beach full of spectators enjoying Eastbourne's sun. Chloe Pollard (East Grinstead SC) and Andrew Horsfall Turner (Beacon SC) took the Open Championships with Junior first places to Maddison Drury (Hailsham SC) and Cavan Beck (Southend SC).
Conditions on Sunday were tough with a stiff breeze and a challenging swell. 80 swimmers fought the conditions over the 2km course to make it home against a strong current to be welcomed by crowds shouting encouragement from the beach as they landed.
Titles were again taken by Chloe Pollard (East Grinstead SC) and Andrew Horsfall Turner (Beacon SC) with junior places going to Maddison Drury (Hailsham SC) and Joel Thompson (Shiverers SC.
The event raised over £600 for local maritime charities.
