Could you become a Swim England Friend?

A Swim England Friend is an individual who is readily available to provide independent advice to help SE members, or their parent or other representative in the case of junior members, faced with problems. The Swim England Friends are volunteers who to work across the SE Regions. They offer support in the SE Regulations / Constitution and the judicial procedure.

A Swim England Friend can bring years of experience in the world of aquatics – and for some it is life itself – to assist anyone who has a problem within the sport.

This year we will be running a distances swimming programme incorporating an open water skills camp and a pool distance training day. Athletes will be notified of their selection by Thursday 28th March. The selection policy can be found below.

First look at Summer Championships 2024 qualifiers kit

We are celebrating the launch of our 2024 qualifiers commemorative kit.

Swimpath, our new clothing partners, have come up with four colour choices for hoodies, 2 choices for T shirts and 2 choices for swim hats. All are available for pre-order for collection at all of the venues for the 2024 Championships.

Portsmouth Victoria & Rushmoor win Artistic Swimming Team Championships

The five team members from Portsmouth Victoria took gold in the 12U team artistic swimming championships held at K2 on 18th February. The team, made up of Maddy Swandell, Sophia Gosden, Jessica Lenn, Ilectra Masmanidi and Lily Madgwick won the event with a score of 130.5381, 35 points ahead of Aquaoaks who took silver.

In the 13-15yrs and Youth Age Group Rushmoor took gold with 182.0456 points. The Rushmoor team, made up of  Cerys Snelling, Amelia Raby, Alexa Arrigoni, Pippa Welch, Betty Fox and Renne Coleman ended up 38 points ahead of Portsmouth Victoria in silver and 48 points ahead of  Aquaoaks.

Regional swimmers excel in Luxembourg

24 regional swimmers traveled to Luxembourg this weekend to represent the South East in the Euro Meet 2024. The level of competition was again high with athletes such as Sarah Sojstrom, Chad Le Clos and David Popovici in attendance.

Our team consisted of a mix of both young and experienced athletes. Over the weekend 19 swimmers stepped up in a strong field to progress into finals or fastest heats in the distance events. This included 8 A finals and 18 B finals plus the relay events.

A finals included; Max Morgan, Mia Colyer, Harry Wynne-Jones, Imogen Myles, Denys Mialkovskyi and Oliver Pope.

In addition to the A finalists, B finals also featured; Chris Finch, Darcy Revitt, Can Tugcetin, Jessica Gable, Charlotte Cope and Ellen Bagley.

On the distance events we added George Pearson, Christian Duetoft and Grace Cummings to the final proceedings.

In total the team bought home 26 medals, including 3 Junior, 22 Youth and 1 senior medal in the final event of the meet, the mixed medley relay which saw 4 great swims from Mia Colyer, Max Morgan, Chris Finch and Darcy Revitt.

Swim England publishes updated version of its safeguarding policy, Wavepower update

Wavepower is Swim England’s safeguarding policy and procedures document.

Its aim is to ensure everyone is able to enjoy our sports and aquatic activity in a safe, positive and enjoyable environment in line with current legislation, regulations and guidance.

All Swim England affiliated clubs and organisations must adopt Wavepower and the current version can be downloaded below.

At the beginning of 2024, an updated version of Wavepower was published.

This is part of Swim England’s commitment to create a culture in our sports and activities which makes everyone feel protected, included and welcomed – and that the safety, welfare and wellbeing of all participants is ingrained throughout our affiliated clubs and organisations.

John Davies wins Alfred H Turner Award

John Davies, Past President of the South East Region in 2009, was the recipient of one of Swim England’s highest honours when he was awarded the Harold H Turner Award at the National Awards ceremony in Birmingham on Saturday 18th November.

The Award recognises John’s tremendous energy and commitment to our sport that stretches back over 40 years.

He held role swimming teacher, technical official, club administrator and board member across his clubs, county and the region, where has left a lasting impact on the organisations he’s been involved with until his retirement in 2022.

John’s Award follows that of his wife Jane who received the Harold Fern Award in 2015. We don’t know of another couple who have had such a significant and long term impact on our sport.

Hampshire win south east round of Masters inter-county championships

The Hampshire Masters team top the scoreboard at the south east round of inter-county championships at the LAC on Sunday 12 November.

With 407 points Hampshire topped the table for the second year with a gap of 71.5 points between them and second placed Surrey on 335.5 points and Middlesex in third with 311 points. Berks and South Bucks finished fourth on 280 points, Sussex, who came in fifth with 260.5 points just pushing Kent into sixth place with 260 points and Oxford and North Bucks ending in seventh.

After much deliberation the awards committee are delighted to announce the winners of the 2023 South East Region Awards.

From more than 130 nominations across all categories nominated by their clubs and colleagues the committee were able to identify people who represent the spirit of our sport from every discipline.

Inspire Coach Mentoring Programme 2023-2024

Swim England’s Inspire Coach Mentoring programme for 2023-2024 provides a unique coach development opportunity for coaches who are predominantly working with age-group and early youth level athletes within the Swim England Talent Pathways Swimming, Para Swimming, Diving, Water Polo and Artistic Swimming.

Each coach will be assigned a mentor from our Swim England National and Regional Coach Developer team who will work with the coach to provide bespoke, in situ support guided by the creation of an Individual Development plan.

The programme will run for a 12-month period from September 2023 until August 2024 and will provide an opportunity for mentored coaches to receive bespoke support relative to their Individual Development plan, take part in small group communities of practice, and enjoy programme visits both from and to your Coach Developer.

Mentoring will be delivered through both online and face to face interactions, and our experienced Coach Developers will facilitate coach development in both technical and non-technical areas.
