BAGCAT Calculation
Distance Events
In line with recommendations from the ASA at the time when conditions were published, the "reverse" distance events are not included in the calculation of overall British Age Group points.
- Boys 800m Freestyle
- Girls 1500m Freestyle
Age 10 4x100m Individual Medley
It was our intent that the 4x100m Individual Medley should be included in the BAG Point calculations. Unfortunately, the published competition conditions do not include this.
Following a protest, it has been decided that the published conditions must apply. Accordingly, the BAG points from the first weekend have been adjusted to remove that event.
Don't understand what BAGCATs is all about?
Refer to the document "Success is long term" from the ASA web site.
K2 Pool Crawley
There seems to be a group of people who are persisting in making statements that K2 in Crawley is not 50m long.
That statement is nonsense. The pool has been surveyed in accordance with the requirements of the ASA. Every lane has been measured at a variety of water depths and found to be the correct length.
Aldershot Pool
During the competition, a number of people complained about our "choice" of Aldershot Pool for the South East Region Championships and about the facilities at that pool.
FACT: We don't have any choice. The local authority in Crawaley are not willing to make K2 available to use for 7 days in 6 weeks for our Championships. Our only alternative would be a short course championships, which is unacceptable to the ASA and not what swimmers need at this stage of their season.
Why did we take the timing pads out of the turning end of the pool? Because one of the pads was physically broken leaving sharp edges. There is no spare pad at Aldershot. To be fair to all swimmers we were forced to remove the pads at the turning end of the pool.
Why did we not have finals as a separate evening session? This is a complex decision and is based on a number of factors:
- Ours is a large region and not all swimmers are abe to stay overnight. Those that travel face a drive of up to 2 hours. If we don't finsh until early evening, it is difficult for those swimmers to eat and sleep properly between days.
- On two days, we were required to be out of the pool by 6pm. It is very difficult to organise a day with separate finals by that time without significantly restricting entries.
- We simply don't have enough officials to lengthen the day.
