BAGCAT Championships 2009: Day 3 As It Happened

Posted by Mike Lambert on 01 Jun 2009 at 10:36

The BAGCAT positions at the end of the first weekend are now available on the web site. Lots of close positions, so everything to swim for in 2 weeks time.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 01 Jun 2009 at 10:39

We really need more people to work behind the scenes on these competitions. If anyone is interested in learning how to record the results please let me know. This requires a familiarity with how to operate a PC and some familiarity with the laws of swimming, but is not particularly difficult. Training and supervision will be provided. You get to sit in the cupboard on poolside and to interact with the referees. You are also the FIRST to know the results.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 01 Jun 2009 at 10:41

The picture above is where the presentations will be in two weeks time. At the end of the afternoon session, we hope to increase the refresh rate to provide full coverage of all the presentations.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 11 Jun 2009 at 11:41

Just a couple of days until the culmination of the BAGCAT Championships at K2 - as long as the pool doesn't flood as it has in Sheffield!

Don't forget to get any withdrawals in, particularly for the distance events.  Unfortunately we can't guarantee to acknowledge receipt of withdrawals.

We have some technology improvements this weekend which should mean we can bring you live results even quicker than before.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 12 Jun 2009 at 00:21

Just in time .. our BAGCAT certificates for this year have arrived from the ASA. EVERY swimmer will get a certificate listing all of the swims in this competition. These will be available to club reps shortly after the conclusion of session 11 on Sunday.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 09:47

And we're off with heat 1.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 09:53

In this first heat we have three 11 year old girls, two 12 year old girls and two 12 year old boys.

After 400m James Wheadon is leading in 4:52.27.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 09:55

At 500m (the 1/3 stage) Katherine Horsfall-Turner leads in the 11 year old girls age group which will be decided in this heat.

Comment by John Vincent Gould on 13 Jun 2009 at 09:56

GOOD LUCK to all the City of Oxford swimmers this weekend, especially the girls 11-13 400m freestyle relay team!!!! love Sarah :D x

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 09:59

After 800m James Wheadon still leads in 9:57.08.  Lucy Campbell heads up the Girls 12 Age group in 10:11.88.  Katherine maintains her lead in 10:37.89 in the Girls 11 - about 6 seconds ahead of Nicole Ryan.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:02

No significant changes with 2/3 done.  James Wheadon in 12:30.38.  A status update for Grace Gibbs: 13:19.97.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:04

James has given himself just under a 20 second lead with 200 to go - 16:21.37.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:07

And James Wheadon comes in to take heat 1 in a time of 18:52.66 - well inside his 19:43 entry time.  That sets the standard for the 12 year old boys to beat.

Lucy Campbell sets the bar at 19:10.18 for the 12 year old girls.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:08

Assuming the result is confirmed Katherine Horsfall-Turner will take gold in the Girls 11 year age group in 19:57.23.  2nd Nicole Ryan in 20:09.99 and bronze will go to Georgia Churchill-Wright.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:12

Heat 2 is dominated by the Boys Age 12 - 5 of the 9 swim in this heat.  3 to go.

We also have two 13 year old girls and one 12 year old girl.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:15

At 400m Frederica Williamson leads the heat in 5:02.42 just ahead of Brandon Choi.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:16

Siobhan Harrison is leading the 13 year old girl age group after 500m in 7:07.51 ahead of Molly Stein in 7:08.39.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:19

Frederica Williamson is about 2 seconds behind Lucy Campbell's pace at the half way stage.  Brandon Choi still leading the heat in 9:32.42.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:22

At the 1000m stage it's still Brandon Choi leading followed by Federica Williamson, Matthew Nolte, Joshua Trout, Elliot Moulder, Siobhan Harrison, Molly Stein and Joe Hazeldine.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:24

And apologies to Federica for getting her name wrong earlier.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:26

Brandon's time of 16:41.29 is about 20 seconds down on the pace set by James Wheadon in heat 1 so he's going to have to pick it up a bit if he wants to take the lead.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:29

Brandon Choi wins heat 2 - his time of 19:10.31 puts him 2nd overall with three 12 year old boys to swim.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:30

With four 12 year old girls to swim Lucy Campbell still holds the time to beat.

The time to aim for is Siobhan Harrison's 19:38.88 for the 13 year old girls.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:33

And the final three 13 year old girls go in this 3rd heat.  Emily Bashforth is leading in this age group after 200m.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:37

After 500m Ben Levart leads the heat in 5:54.61.

Emily Bashforth heads the Girls 13 in 6:06.28 - about 13 seconds ahead of Lucy Campbell's split.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:39

Ben Levart maintains his lead at the half way stage - 8:56.53.  He is also ahead of the current leader's place in his age group.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:42

At the 2/3 mark Alice Lim heads the 12 year old girls in 12:25.32, well ahead of the split set up Lucy Campbell in heat 1.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:48

Ben Levart takes his heat in 17:58.11 to also take the lead in his age group.  Very good swim.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:50

Alice Lim finishes 2nd in 18:40.63 and also raises the bar for the Girls Age 12.

Emily Bashforth finishes 3rd in the heat taking Gold in the Girls Age 13.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:53

Lots to concentrate on in Heat 4.  Three age groups will be decided in this heat - in lanes 1 and 3 we have the last two 13 year old boys chasing Alastair Bingham's time of 19:14.81.

In lanes 2 and 4 we have the last two 12 year old girls looking to beat Alice Lim's 18:40.63.

And in lane 5 the final 12 year old boy aiming for Ben Levart's 17:58.11 - but Thomas Diaper-Fox will have to go 20 seconds faster than his entry time to do that.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:55

So after 400m Thomas Diaper-Fox is about 2 seconds slower than Ben Levart in 4:44.03.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:56

In the Girls Age 12 Kristina Neves is leading after 500m in 5:58.77 - that's about 10 seconds ahead of the pace set in the last heat.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 10:58

And in the Boys Age 13 Liam Small is leading with 7:12.61 after 600m.  Alistair Bingham was at 7:18.22 at the same stage in the previous heat.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:00

At the half way stage it's still Benjamin Jones leading the heat in 8:50.48.  Thomas Diaper-Fox is putting in a good fight now about 0.7 seconds up on Ben Levart.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:02

After 1000m Liam Small is on course for victory in the Boys Age 12 in 12:10.69 if he can hold his pace.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:03

Sorry - Liam is of course 13.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:05

With 300 to go Kristina Neves is about 18 seconds inside the previous best split in her age group in 14:39.40.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:06

Back to the closest race in the heat - for the Boys Age 12.  Thomas Diaper-Fox is just 0.13 seconds ahead of the split set in the previous heat by Ben Levart.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:07

And with 100 to go he is know just under.  Who will have the better final 100?

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:08

Ben Levart keeps hold of Gold in the Boys Age 12 as Thomas Diaper-Fox finishes in 17:58.50.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:09

Kristina Neves takes the Girls Age 12 in 17:58.50 and Liam Small the Boys Age 13 in 18:23.72.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:13

Much simpler in this final heat - all 8 are boys age 14 so all are chasing Benjamin Jones' time of 17:54.45.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:15

After 500m Sidney Howes leads and is already 9 seconds ahead of the previous best split in 5:41.43.  Benjamin Flaherty 2nd and Glen Melson 3rd.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:18

Nothing between Ben and Sidney at the half way stage - Ben just leading in 8:35.36 and Jack Beddoes also within reach.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:19

And Jack Beddoes comes through to take the lead after 850m.  All three still very close though.

At 900m there's still only 1 second between the top three.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:20

Jack is now stretching his lead further - about a body length ahead with 500m to go.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:23

Previous best at 1200m was 14:17.73 - Jack smashes that to 13:47.66.  Ben Flaherty and Sidney Howes still fighting it out for 2nd and 3rd positions.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:24

Jack Beddoes holds his lead with 200m remaining and Benjamin Flaherty has pulled ahead of Sidney Howes.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:27

Jack Beddoes wins the heat and takes gold in the Boys Age 14 Age Group in 17:15.06.  Ben Flaherty 2nd in 17:18.67 and Sidney Howes 3rd in 17:22.27.  All three within their national times I'm told.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 11:29

That concludes the first session of the weekend.  Next warm up is 12:45pm, starting with the relays at 1:15pm.

That gives time for some lunch then to sort the webcam which appears to have decided to have a bit of a nap part way through that last heat.

Comment by Andrew Widgery on 13 Jun 2009 at 12:46

Great to have your on-line commentary Chris, sadly we can't be there today but are watching the events here at home and monitoring our Haslemere swimmers progress. Keep up the great work and can someone sort the web cam out, that would be great!! best wishes to all competitors Andrew Widgery

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:03

The webcam should be working better this afternoon.  Having said that it probably won't work at all...

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:06

Session 6 of the championships kicks off in around 10 minutes.

This session has 3 heats of 4x100m Medley Relay for the boys followed by 4 heats of 4x100m Freetyle Relay for the girls.

Comment by David Pollard on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:09

Looking for great swims from the 1066 girls, Charlotte, Chloe, Ella and Ellie. Swim fast and enjoy I'll be watching ! From David

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:18

Heat 1 is in the water.  Black Lion B, Rushmoor, Atlantis, Guildford B, Basingstoke and Burgess Hill.

Comment by Laura Gove on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:18

Good luck to all Hampshire North swimmers especially those from Hart :) From Laura Gove

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:18

After the Backstroke it's Basingstoke leading in 1:07.91.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:20

At the half way stage Atlantis have taken the lead with Basingstoke pushed back to 2nd.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:22

And Basingstoke take the first heat - setting the target for the subsequent heats of 4:41.12.  Atlantis 2nd.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:26

A slightly slower start to heat 2 - Windsor lead after 100m in 1:09.09.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:28

Haslemere take the lead on the Breaststroke leg but Windsor pull back on the fly.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:29

It's Windsor finishing in 1st place in heat 2 in 4:41.12.  But Basingstoke hold on to 2nd place overall.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:33

At the halfway stage in heat 3 Milton Keynes are leading in 2:22.44.  Very close between all teams though.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:34

With just the free to go Southampton take the lead followed by Milton Keynes and Guildford City.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:35

It's neck and neck up the final 50 but Milton Keynes take it followed by Bracknell and Wokingham coming from nowhere.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:38

Halfway through the first heat of the Girls 4x100 Freestyle Relay Black Lion B and Wantage touched virtually together.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:41

Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath win the first heat in 4:44.08.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:45

Rushmoor take an early lead in heat 2 but it's close between Elmbridge, Black Lion and Hants North for 2nd.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:46

With 100 to go it's closed up and there's little to choose between the four teams.  Hants North just edging into the lead.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:48

Hampshire North take the 2nd heat and also set a new standard of 4:33.12.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:50

Milton Keynes lead heat 3 after the first 100 but just 6 seconds seperates the teams so there's still plenty of opportunity for things to change.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:51

And things have changed at the half way point - Windsor taken the lead in 2:09.95 and Milton Keynes dropped to third.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:51

As the final teams enter the pool it's still Windsor then Oxford.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:52

Windsor win - 4:20.74 is the time to beat in the final heat.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:55

Leatherhead lead the final heat as the first swimmers finish - but it's too close to make much of a difference.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:56

At half way it's Guildford, Amersham, Southampton.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:57

Guildford hold their lead with 100 to go but it's all down to the last swimmer.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:58

Guildford and Amersham have 1st and 2nd tied up in the final length but it's closer for 3rd - Southampton take it.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 13:59

But Windsor's time in heat 3 was faster than Southampton so Windsor take bronze.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 14:02

And that concludes Session 8.  Next session starts at 2:45pm.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 14:39

A heats list is ready to put up now. just waiting for Chris to perform some magic to provide  a working link. We start session 9 with 20 heats of 200m freestyle!

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 14:42

Let's give this a go:

Start Lists for Session 9 - http://tinyurl.com/nmb4mx

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 14:49

That didn't work quite as well as I hoped, so Start Lists for Session 9

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 14:50

20 heats of the Boys 100 Free to start off the afternoon.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 14:56

It's mostly 10 year olds for the first few heats - the final 10 year olds go in heat 5 so we can expect some more improvements in times to come.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:00

With three 10 year olds to go in heat 5 the standard is currently set by Max Kelly-Gee  - 2:34.25.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:02

There are actually 2 more ten year olds to go in heat 8.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:08

So now that I've learnt to read my own writing:

With just two 10 year olds to go in heat 8 the standard is currently set by Finn Campbell in 2:28.37.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:12

At the turn Oliver Kincart is marginally ahead of Ryan Smith in the 10 year old age group.

Oliver beats Ryan in this heat in 2:26.76 to take gold.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:15

Now turning to the 11 year olds - two swimmers to go in heats 10 and 11, aiming for Rubens King's time of 2:22.83.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:18

Aaron Lloyd goes in Heat 10 - 1:08.65 at turn 100m mark.  and he sets the standard of 2:20.77.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:20

Sorry - 2:20.70.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:21

And it's Adam Milne aiming for that time.

Adam turns faster than Aaron at the half way point and holds the lead to take gold in 2:19.59.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:31

Thomas Harrison will be the last 12 year old to go in heat 15.  We need to watch the three swimmers in heat 14 to find out what time he's aiming for.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:34

Thomas' target is Ben Levart's time of 2:11.19.

He leads his heat in 1:03.96 at the turn but will it be enough? No - Ben Levart takes gold.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:37

Although of course we have finals for these again so no medals yet...

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:43

Now that I've learnt the rules of the competition - the last of the 13 and 14 year olds go in the last heat so we'll have to wait until then for the finalist.s

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:50

Camera batteries replaced so the webcam should be back up and running.

On to the Girls 100 back - and there are no finals this time so they are going straight for the medals.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:52

Emma Trotman sets the time to beat in the Girls Age 10 - 1:37.35

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 15:57

Sarah Tripp improves on that in heat 2 to set a new standard of 1:36.90 for the final heat.

And Sophie Waller improves again to take gold in 1:30.13.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 16:04

The last of the 11 year olds go in heat 3.

Hannah Dry takes it in 1:24.29 ahead of Angharad Eburne in 2nd.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 16:12

Has the live update of the latest result stopped?

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 16:18

A few technical issues - all fixed now.

Comment by Jane Shinnie on 13 Jun 2009 at 16:19

There were no auto refreshes between 15.56 and 16.17 on my screen, but it's working now. Great job again everyone and a BIG well done to the ASC swimmers

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 16:23

Just one 10 year old to go in the Boys 200m Breaststroke (Oliver Kincart in heat 5) - the time to beat is James McFadzen's time of 3:20.49.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 16:27

The 11 year old event will also conclude in heat 5 - with Oliver Waldram and Rubens King aiming to beat James Millar's time of 3:04.15

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 16:31

Oliver Kincart wins the Boys Age 10 in 3:14.83.

Despite a close race Rubens King finishes ahead of Oliver Waldram in 3:01.82 to take Gold.  Oliver takes silver in 3:03.29.  James Millar 3rd.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 16:43

Sorry for the lack of updates - been busy sorting the finals out.

We now have the confirmed results of the 12 year old age group on the right hand side.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 16:44

A close final heat but Alex Murphy just touches out Neil Redman for the 14 year old age group.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 17:02

We have the last of the 10 and 11 year olds in Heat 4.  Zara Ryan aiming for 2:56.71 and Katherine Horsfall-Turner targetting 2:46.45.

Both Katherine and Zara beat the previous bests to take Gold in their respective age groups.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 17:07

In the final heat Kristina Neves sets a new region record of 2:27.27 in the Girls Age 12 to take Gold.  Jenniffer Hussey takes gold in the Age 13.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 13 Jun 2009 at 17:09

And it's on to the finals.

Final of the Boys Age 10 200 Freestyle

Ryan Smith leads at the half way stage but Oliver Kincart is right on his heels.  Oliver comes back in the final 50 to take Gold in 2:25.01.  Ryan takes silver.

Final of the Boys Age 11 200m Freestyle

Adam Milne touches 0.4 seconds ahead of Aaron Lloyd at the 100m mark.  Aaron closes the gap with 50m to go so it's a sprint back to the finish.

They're head-to-head with 5m to go but Aaron Lloyd just comes through to take gold in 2:19.38.  Adam 2nd in 2:19.43.  So close.

Final of the Boys Age 12 200m Freestyle

A slight delay while we make sure we have the right event on the board but they get away eventually.

Ben Levart takes an early lead and holds it to win gold in 2:09.96.  It's an Amersham 1, 2 with Thomas Harrison second.

Final of the Boys Age 13 200m Freestyle

Cameron Lambourne goes out quickly in 27.98 for the 1st 50.  He holds the lead at the half way stage but the others are coming back.

With 50 to go it looks like Cameron has it in the bag but it's much closer for 2nd.  Cameron claims gold in 2:05.79, Ewan Laing 2nd in 2:08.38 and Gavin Suen third.

Final of the Boys Age 14 200m Freestyle

The final final gets off to a very strong start with less than a second between the first three after 50m.

And that brings us to the end of the day.

If you're staying in Crawley I recommend you avoid Tapas - unless you want to be over run with officials of course...

Welcome back to the final day of the BAGCAT Championships.

No relays today but we do have the overall BAGCAT presentations to look forward to at the end of the Championships.  The top 8 swimmers in each age group will receive an award based on their performance over the championships.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 08:23

If you're looking for updates from yesterday they can be found here.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 08:31

Looks like there's also a Judo competition at K2 today - we have more computers than they do though :)

Posted by Mike Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 08:40

Here is the heats list for the 800m freestyle.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 08:45

So as you can see from the start list we have 11 heats of 800m.

Just checking - no, we don't have finals for this so it is HDW.  Don't want to make that mistake again today!

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 08:48

Heat 1 is in the water.

In lanes 3, 4 and 5 we have the first 3 of eight 11 year old girls.  In lane 7 Daniel Malamud is the first of the 12 year old boys to go.

Finally in Lane 6 we have the first of just two 11 year old boys - James Worsley.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 08:51

So at the 200m mark Daniel Malamud leads in 2:31.76 closely followed by Megan Owen.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 08:54

No change in the leader at the half way stage.

James' half way split is 5:26.43 - something for the other 11 year old boy (Oliver Waldram) to aim for in heat 2.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 08:57

600m down - 7:48.01 for Daniel, Megan Owen still following in 2nd place.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 08:59

Having lead throughout Daniel Malamud wins the first heat in 10:21.80 setting the standard for 12 year old boys.

Megan Owen sets a national qualifying time of 10:24.39.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:00

I have now loaded a copy of the BAGCAT positions after day 3.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:01

James Worsley set a time of 11:01.79 - slightly outside his entry time - in heat 1 and our one remaining 11 year old boy, Oliver Waldram, will be trying to beat that time in heat 2.

Oliver is the only boy in the heat - accompanied by three 11 year old girls and the first 2 twelve year old girls.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:03

Oliver makes his 200m turn at 2:32.57 - about 5 seconds quicker than James' split.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:05

At the half way stage Nicole Ryan is leading the heat in 4:31.07.

Oliver is looking for 5:26.43 to stay in the lead in his age group and touches in 5:18.83.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:09

With 200 to go Oliver Waldram is about 8 seconds up on the previous best so he looks good for gold.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:11

Nicole Ryan wins heat 2 in 10:25.77 which means Megan Owen still leads the 11 year old girls with two to go in heat 3.

Oliver Waldram finishes in 10:53.89 to take Gold in the 11 year old boy age group.  Silver goes to James Worsley.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:15

So as I just said we have our last two 11 year old girls in heat 3 - Charlotte Evans in lane 1 and Katherine Horsfal-Turner in lane 5.

After 200m Christy Chui leads the heat in 2:29.12.  Katherine leads the 11 year old girls in 2:31.55 - about 1.5 seconds faster than Megan Owen's split.  And Charlotte only a second behind as well.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:18

At the half way potin Katherine Horsfall-Turner has taken the lead in 5:07.60, some 3 seconds faster than Megan Owen.  Charlotte Evans is dropping back a bit.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:21

Katherine looks on target for gold with 200m to go - 4 seconds faster than the previous best split.  It's very close between Charlotte Evans and Megan Owen for 2nd though - it could go either way.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:22

Katherine Horsfall-Turner takes the heat and gold for 11 year old girls in 10:18.09.  Charlotte Evans takes silver in 10:23.21 which means Megan Owen will get bronze.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:26

Now that the youngest age groups are out of the way we've got quite a mixture of age groups in each heat.

In heat 4 Jade Pithers leads after 200m in 2:27.20.

Comment by Clare Littlejohn on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:28

"Good Luck" to all the swimmers from FARNHAM SWIMMING CLUB at the K2 today... Go for it!

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:29

0.07 seconds over 5 minutes for Jade at the half way point.  Scott Andrews in second and Amy Medlock third.

Comment by Robert Sawers on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:31

Well done Charlotte Evans, from all at TEAM AYLESBURY.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:34

And that's how it stays to the end - Jade Pithers wins in 10:05.46 setting a new best for the 12 year old girls.

Scott Andrews sets the standard for 13 year old boys - 10:11.68.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:37

4 boys, 4 girls in heat 5.  Thomas Harrison leads after 200m in 2:21.13.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:41

Thomas Harrison leads at the 1/2 way point in 4:49.31 but it looks like he may have been trying for a 400m time so he may drop back now.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:42

And he does - Lucy Campbell leads with 200 to go in 7:23.47.  She'll be looking to beat Jade's time from the previous heat.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:46

Lucy Campbell takes heat 5 in 9:51.30 to take the lead in the girls age 12.

Despite dropping back Thomas Harrison beats the previous best in the boys 12 years and Siobhan Harrison (no relation!) raises the bar in the Girls 13.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:51

With 400m to go in heat 6 Nicola Cook leads in 4:45.09.  It's a close race between Ella Dias and Bryony Parsons - Byony lead for the first 300 but Ella has come through.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:53

Nicola has a convincing lead with 200 to go - 7:11.85 - about 7 seconds ahead of Ella who has also broken away from the pack.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 09:57

Nicola Cooke wins heat 6 in 9:37.91.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:10

As we move into heat 8 we are getting towards the end of the Boys Age 12 (3 to go) and the Girls Age 12 (4 to go) and 13 (3 to go) competitions.

Targets at the moment:

  • Boys 12: Thomas Harrison 10:06.04
  • Girls 12: Ella Dias 2:23.18
  • Girls 13: Nicola Cooke 9:37.91

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:13

At the 400m mark Thomas Diaper-Fox is leading the heat and setting a new fastest split for boys 12 of 4:44.36.

Nicola Dollery is the fastest of the 12 year old girls so far.

Emily Bashforth is the fasters 13 year old girl in the heat but isn't quite at Nicola Cooke's split.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:17

Thomas Diaper Fox sets a new region record of 9:29.33.  That's quite a target for the remaining 12 year olds in the next heat!

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:19

Both Nicole Dollery and Emily Bashforth set new bests in their age group so far today so there times are the ones to sim for in heat 9.

We have just one 13 year old girl - Emma Lomas - one 12 year old girl - Kristina Neves - and 2 12 year old boys - Ben Levart and Oliver Kilbey.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:21

At the 200m mark Ben Levart leads the heat in 2:14.18 - faster than Thomas' split.  Can the record go again?

Kristina and Emma are both outside the previous best splits.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:23

At 400m Ben records 4:36.36 - 8 seconds ahead of Thomas' time.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:25

Ben's still ahead at 600m - 6:59.41.  Still 8 seconds up.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:28

And Ben Levart brings it back in 9:20.32 to break the South East Region record for the second time in 10 minutes.  Very good swims.

Kristina Neves improves on Nicole Dollery in the last 200 to take gold in the Girls 12 years in 9:35.01.

Emma Lomas can't improve on Emily Bashforth's time to Emily takes gold.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:31

Just two 13 year old boys to swim now - Liam Small in this heat and Cameron Lambourne in the final heat.  Chasing Ewan Laing's time of 9:23.18.

At the 200m mark Laiam is at 2:21.17 - about 7 seconds slower than Ewan.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:33

At the half way mark Matthew Masters leads the heat in 4:27.22.  About 8 metres ahead of the next swimmer.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:36

7:12.20 for Liam Small after 600m - doesn't look like he'll be challenging for gold but it could be enough to guarantee him bronze.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:39

Matthew Masters wins heat 10 in 9:02.70 to set the standard for 14 year old boys.

Liam's time of 9:33.80 puts him in third place with one more to swim in his age group.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:40

So on to the final heat.  Seven 14 year olds here looking to beat Matthew's time of 9:02.70.  And one 13 year old - Cameron Lambourne in lane 7 looking to beat Ewan Laing's time of 9:23.18.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:41

At the 200 metre turn Glen Melson leads in 2:09.85 - about a second up on Matthew's split.

Cameron at 2:14.25 is about 0.6 seconds ahead of Ewan's time at the same point.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:44

Sidney Howes takes the lead at the half way point in 4:29.06 - Glen Melson only 0.3 behind though.  A couple of seconds slower than Matthew Masters though.

Cameron Lambourne still marginally ahead of Ewan Laing's split but not by much.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:46

With 200 to go it's still Sidney Howes in 6:46.98 - just 0.07 ahead of Matthew's split now.

Cameron Lambourne in 7:01.41 has dropped behind Ewan Laing who recorded 7:01.29 at that turn.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:46

As they turn into the final 100 Sidney Howes is breaking away in this heat but will it be enough?

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 10:50

9:02.20 for Sidney Howes puts him 0.5 seconds ahead of Matthew Masters and earns him gold.  Matthew will get silver and bronze goes to Benjamin Flaherty.

Cameron Lambourn finishes in 9:21.38 to take gold. Ewan Laing will take silver and bronze will go to Ricky Fryer.

It's just over 10 minutes until we commence the final session of this year's Championships.

At the end of the session we will present the BAGCAT Awards to the best swimmers in the region in each age group.  During the presentations we'll be increasing the refresh rate on the webcam so you can see what's happening better.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 12:38

Posted by Mike Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 12:39

As yesterday, there are finals for the 200m freestyle. Swims in the finals do NOT count towards the overall BAGCAT competition.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 12:42

Just 22 points between the top 4 in the boys age 11 category, so all to swim for.
1. Sean O'Kill (Portsmouth Northsea) 1924
2. Adam Milne (Basingstoke Bluefins) 1913
3. Rubens King (Guildford City) 1905
4. Ben Evans (Dover Lifeguard) 1902

Posted by Mike Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 12:43

Just 10 points between the top 2 in the boys under 13 category.

1. William Condron (Littlehampton) 2348
2. Ricky Fryer (Staines) 2338

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 12:44

Particularly as Sean O'Kill isn't swimming this afternoon...

Posted by Mike Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 12:45

Age 14 boys is also pretty close:

1. George Wilson (Bracknell and Wokingham) 2751
2. Matthew Masters (City Of Milton Keynes) 2735

Posted by Mike Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 12:46

None of the girls categories are closer than 50 points between first and second, so there will probably not be any change there.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 12:58

Heat 4 of the Girls 200 Free is in the water.  We have to wait until heat 7 to find out who the first finalists will be when Zara Ryan is the last of the 10 year olds to swim.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:08

And we are now on Heat 7 - Zara Ryan is looking for better than 2:39.21 to qualify for the final.

She's well inside that so no problem for her.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:11

So the qualifiers for the 10 year old final are as shown: Sophie Waller, Zara Ryan, Kelly Small, Jessica Bishop, Imogen Smith, Ella Windle, Stevey-May Biles and Rose Griffiths.

Don't forget that final times don't count towards BAGCAT scores so it's the heats that matter there.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:15

Very close finish in heat 9 there - the first four swimmers within 0.5 seconds but Hannah Parker wins it in 2:24.51.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:20

Heat 10 confirms the finalists for the Age 11 Girls.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:23

Lilly Glover turns first in heat 12 in 1:07.10 and holds that to win in 2:19.03.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:29

Very close between Emily Bashforth and Lucy Campbell at the 1/2 way stage of heat 14 - but Emily pulls out a lead in the second half to win in 2:13.91.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:35

Heat 16 of 17 in the pool - six 12 years in the two heats but good times already so plenty of opportunity to change the finalists.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:37

And a new south east region record of 2:12.92 for Kristina Neves.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:38

And the final heat - Chloe Bean wins the heat to book her place in the final.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:40

On to the Boys 100m Breast.  All 10 year olds in the first heat - 1:35.37 for Joeseph Mullender sets the standard.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:44

Still all 10 in heat 2 - James McFadzen wins the heat in 1:37.38 but doesn't better Joseph's time.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:45

I was wrong - Hannah Dry's 200m freestyle has taken her into 1st place in the girls age 11 BAGCATs. Ellie Hoar needs to improve her form score by 22 points in 200m breaststroke to regain the lead (Hannah has now finished).

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:46

All but one 10 year old swum by the end of heat 3 - current leader is Jordan Brett in 1:34.15.

Nathanael Armstrong sets the 11 year old standard - 1:32.79.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:48

Very tight between Rubens King and Oliver Waldram in the final heat but Rubens just touches ahead in 1:24.50 to take gold.

Oliver Kincart touches in 1:28.50 to win the 10 year old age group.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:50

Kyriacos Papa-Adams wins heat one of the 12-14 years to set the standard of 1:25.19.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:54

The final 12 year old in heat three have 1:22.27 to beat - James Wheadon's 1:23.79 isn't enough for gold but does get him bronze.  Gold to Kieran Hosdon Kilroy.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:58

The last two 13 year olds go head-to-head in heat 5.  1:15.23 to beat.

Courtney Dos Santos gets the touched ahead of William Condron but 1:16.63 is only good enough for silver.

Posted by Mike Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 13:59

Rubens King takes over 1st spot in the Age 11 boys BAGCATs after the 100m breaststroke.  Rubens and Adam Milne have 1 event left, the 200m butterfly.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 14:00

New South East Region Record for Alex Murphy of 1:10.64 sees him take Gold in the 14 years ahead of Neil Redman in 2nd place and Max Peterson in 3rd.

After 2 heats in the Girls 200m Breaststroke Emma Trotman is leading the Girls Age 10 Years in 3:26.29.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 14:14

Lilly Seaward touches 1st in heat 3 but is disqualified so Nienke Lijenga leads after 3 heats in 3:24.80.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 14:20

Three 10 year olds in heats 6 and 7 aiming for Zara Ryan's 3:14.87.

Sophie Waller wins heat 6 to raise the standard to 3:05.02.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 14:21

Actually - 3:09.02.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 14:26

So that's Ella Windle's target.  1:34.15 at the mid-way point so she'll need to keep up the pace if she wants to win gold.

Ella finishes in 3:12.28 to take the silver medal.  Sophie Waller retains 1st place and the gold medal while Zara Ryan picks up bronze.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 14:35

One 11 year old to swim in heat 9 and one in heat 10.  The best after heat 8 is Amelia Read in 3:06.02.

Hannah Dry goes in Heat 9 - turning in 1:28.64.  And she touches 1st in her heat in 3:02.17 to set the new time to beat.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 14:40

Angharad Eburne is the final 11 year old to swim.  She turns in 1:26.80 so is on course for gold.

And she finshes in 3:00.06 to take Gold.  Hannah Dry 2nd, Amelia Reed 3rd.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 14:44

On to the final heat with both the 12 and 13 year olds to be decided.

Emma Day and Federica Williamson go for the 12 year olds in the outside lane aiming for 2:54.77.  The other six are 13 targetting 2:54.83 from Nicole Hewlett.

Chloe Bean sets a new regional record to win the 13 year old age group in 2:38.85.

Federica touches ahead of Emma but does not beat Ella Watson's previous time so Ella takes Gold, Federica silver and Emma bronze.

Comment by Pippa Anderson on 14 Jun 2009 at 14:44

Good Luck to Hampshire North's Imogen Smith in the Girls 10yrs 200m Free Final. Immy, imagine you're behind me (Fraser), catching me up, grabbing my feet, like you do on Wednesday mornings! Go for it Immy!

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 14:53

Oliver Kincart is the only 10 year old left to swim now.  Adam Milne leads in 2:46.94.  Oliver's entry time suggests he'll be around 10 seconds faster though.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 14:59

Oliver Kincart reaches the half way stage at the back of his heat in 1:18.14 and finishes in 2:46.49 to take gold.  Adam Milne will win silver and Aaron Gudge bronze.

Now what will that do to the BAGCATs?  My brain can't work it out!

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 15:00

Still working on the 11 year olds as Aaron Lloyd has been disqualified.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 15:03

Adam Van Lokven takes gold in the 13 years age group in 2:26.13.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 15:08

Final of the Girls 10 Years 200 Freestyle

It's Zara Ryan at the 100m turn but Sophie Waller is hot on her heels.  It's too close to call for third place with 50m to go so it's going to come down to the sprint down to the finish.

Zara Ryan takes gold in 2:25.25.  Sophie Waller 2nd, Kelly Small 3rd.

Posted by Chris Lambert on 14 Jun 2009 at 15:13

Final of the Girls 11 Years 200m Freestyle

Well done to all those BAGCAT winners.

That concludes the 2009 Championships - just time to clear up.  Photos from the presentations should be available later this evening.

Well said Davi - this Twitter is just brilliant. Thank you Chris, Mike, Sue and all 'the team' for making the Regionals happen. It looks so smooth and seamless; it's brilliant. I'm sure you must lead the field in this respect. It's time for a well earned glass of whatever you fancy! Well done!

Thanks for all of the comments and my thanks go to the Meet Management team of Eileen Adams and Lis Hartley for such a smooth competition.
Chris: Brilliant web system. Well done!
For those of you in Hampshire, the upcoming Development Competition in Waterlooville is the next competition that will feature our ground breaking live web service.

And finally .. for those not there at the end, the final BAGCAT positions are available. Really competitive in many age groups this year.

Looks like the Winter Short Course will be in Aldershot. Watch the web site for confirmation.

The results are now included in the ASA rankings, so those of you who got NQTs can now get your entries finalised.
