Spofforth Shortlisted for Prestiguous Award

Nominations have been announced for The Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards 2009 and World Champion Gemma Spofforth has been shortlisted for the prestigious awards.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at The David Beckham Academy on Tuesday 3rd November.

Now in their 22nd year, the awards recognise the whole spectrum of female sporting success from leading sportswomen through to rising stars, to those working behind the scenes.

Spofforth was recognised for her impressive performance in Rome where she broke the world record on her way to winning gold in the 100m Backstroke. She also finished fourth in the 200m Backstroke and helped the British Gas squad to fourth in the 4x100m Medley Relay.
