Session 3: Results
Gemma Spofforth broke the British Record in the Womens 100m Backstroke to be the only swimmer in the heats to break the 1 minute barrier. Spofforth will be battling with Portsmouth Northsea team-mate Katy Sexton and the three other ladies who beat the FINA A Time for two places in Team GB in tomorrow's final. Only the top two finishers will make it through to Beijing.
"I have just come off the back of the NCAAs (US Collegiate Swimming) where things went very well for me so to keep it going in that direction here is amazing," Spofforth said. "I have been working very hard and I was really looking forward to coming back to Britain and doing something pretty special."
In the Mens 10m Freestyle Windor's Simon Burnett narrowly missed out on a chance of qualifying for the Olympic team by finishing in 22.39 seconds - just 0.04 seconds outside the require standard. However Burnett is the second fastest seed for the final behing Mark Foster so still stands a strong chance of winning a British medal. Edward Denton, also from Windsor, finished in 10th place in the heats to qualify for the B Final - and second reserve for the final.
